PARISH NOTICES - 16/17 November 2019

Baptism: Congratulations to Eric William Lazinskas who will be baptized on Sunday 17th November at 3pm. Our prayers and best wishes go to Eric and his family on this very special occasion. Well done everyone!

Assisi Pilgrimage - June 2020: We have arranged a joint parish Pilgrimage to Assisi, the hometown of St Francis, from 21st – 26th June 2020. The cost, which includes; flights, transfer to the hotel with luxury coach, half board accommodation and entry into all the scared sites and basilicas will be £649 based on two sharing. The tour operators will be providing booking forms and full details of the itinerary soon. Interested in joining us? Please let us know and we can reserve you a seat. 

Advent ‘Beloved Disciple’ course: The ‘Beloved Disciple’ course is designed specifically for the over 60’s. This DVD Course will be held in our Parish Room on Saturdays; 30th November, 7th December, 14th December and 21st December from 11.30am – 12.30pm. Speakers on the DVD are David Wells and David Payne together with interviews with older people. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided. Please sign up at the back of church. Donations are invited. 

SVP Food Bank: The SVP would be grateful for the following donations; cereal, coffee, sugar, pasta sauce, tinned meat, tinned tomatoes and toiletries.  Thank you for your generosity. 

Freedom in Christ: The Catholic Renewal Convention and healing service will take place on Sunday 17th November from 2pm – 6pm at Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Church Bulwell (NG6 9ES). Led by Fr John Martin and with guest speaker, Fr Pat Collins. 

Advent Giving: The season of Advent is almost with us, and our SVP Red Box will be available on the first two weekends 30th November/1st December and 7th/8th December for donations of new gifts for children 1 – 15 years old.  On the third Sunday, 14th/15th December, we will be collecting gifts for Emmanuel House, more details to follow.  Thank you.  

Invitation to Retreat: The Briars are running an ADVENTure Retreat for young people years 10-13, from the 13th to 15th December, cost £70.  Open to individuals or as a group of friends, book at https://ndcys.com/advent2019/ 

First Communion Programme: Parents who have registered their child(ren) for our First Communion Programme for next year – we have a meeting on Tuesday 19th November at 6pm at Our Lady and St Edward Church. It is important for you to attend this meeting because details of the Programme will be given, together with dates of meetings etc. The Enrolment Mass for the children and their families will be on Sunday 1st December at 11.15am. All children will be expected to attend this Mass.

LIVING SIMPLY This week’s suggestion: Living in Solidarity. How can you support those who are suffering abroad? Sending Charitable Christmas Cards can be one way. Supporting CAFOD’s Christmas Campaign and WORLD GIFTS: cafod.org.uk. Remember our monthly Recycling Campaign:  These items can be placed in the Recycling Bin at the back of Church by the last weekend of the month. For November: Spectacles and Ink Cartridges. Thank you!  

Our next Parish Live Simply Meeting is on Tuesday 21st January 7.30pm in the Parish Room. Come with your ideas. 

Exploring Our Faith – Catholic Foundation Stones: Our 12-session programme based on ‘Catholic Foundation Stones’ goes through the basics of the Catholic faith in a relaxed and easy way. Next session: Monday 18th November, 7pm, at Sacred Heart Church room, Carlton. 

Red Missio boxes: Final reminder: If you have a red Missio box at home, please bring it in for collection as soon as possible. The box will be emptied and returned to you. The money will be sent to help missionaries spread the gospel in developing countries.

International Mass: Our special ‘International Mass’ to celebrate the diversity of our parish community, will this year be held next Sunday, on the Feast of Christ the King at 11.15am. Our school choir will be joining us. The readings, prayers and hopefully some of the music will be in different languages representing our community. Please let us know if you would like to be involved. Come along dressed in your national costume and bring some food from your ‘home’ country to share with everyone in the Friary after Mass. 

Book of Life: During the month of November, our ‘Book of Life’ will be at the front of Church. It contains all the names of those from our parish community who have died. The candle is lit in their memory and as a sign of our love for them. 

Youth Group: Youth Group meets at the Greyfriars every two weeks from 18th November. New time: 6-8pm. 

Altar Servers Day: Next Saturday, 23rd November, there will be a ‘Day for Altar Servers’ from around the Diocese, at The Old Friary beginning after Mass at 11am. All servers are invited to look at what God might be calling them to do. This event will end by 3.30pm and all servers 11 years + are invited. 

St, Stephen’s Medals: Next week at the 11.15am Mass two of our altar servers will receive their bronze medal of honour and be received officially into the Guild of St Stephen. Takem and Zach have been serving regularly for over a year and we congratulate them and thank the families of all our altar servers for supporting them in this very special ministry in our church. Thank you servers – keep up the great work!
