‘My Jesus, I believe that you are present in The Blessed Sacrament. I love you above all things and I long for you in my soul. Since I cannot now receive you Sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. As though you have already come, I embrace you and unite myself entirely to you. Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.’

(Based on a prayer by St Alphonsus Liguori from Catholic Online)

Special prayers and intentions: If you would like Fr Paul and Fr Jonathan to pray for any particular intentions you may have, please email the parish office with these intentions. They promise to bring all these prayers and intentions to their daily private Masses. Please share this information with friends and family.

LIVING SIMPLY During this time of enforced restrictions on our lifestyles because of the Coronavirus crisis, let us take this opportunity to look at the lessons we can learn about our lifestyles for future healthy living, living simply together so as to care for our environment and to care for each other. This week’s suggestion: Take some time out to educate yourself and read Pope Francis’ Encyclical called ‘Laudato Si’. To help, download CAFOD’s Study Guide at

Saint Vincent de Paul (SVP): Our Parish Food bank is very low.

If you can help bring food into The Old Friary so that we can help some of our families that will need our support particularly in the crisis we are facing with the Coronavirus, we would be really grateful.

Donations of the following, non-perishable, long sell-by items would be very much appreciated; tinned meat and fish, tinned tomatoes, baked beans and soup, pasta, cereal and biscuits, tea, coffee, sugar, squash and toiletries - soap, deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrushes.  Many thanks for your continued generosity.

First Reconciliation/First Communion 2020: Our parish First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion celebrations are postponed until further notice. More information will follow later including details of the preparation time that will be required for the children and their parents.

Youth Group - cancelled: Our parish Youth Group has been cancelled until further notice.

Envelope scheme/weekly offerings: We are so grateful for your ongoing support during this difficult time. We still must face the on costs and expenditure for the church. Some people are asking about their weekly offering to the church - If you are in the planned-giving envelope scheme, and if you are able to do so, please put your envelope through the letterbox at The Friary. If you usually add some cash to the collection basket during Mass and want to continue to support the church, please put your offering in an envelope marked ‘collection’ put it through the letter box at The Friary and we will bank it in the usual way. Many thanks!

Coronavirus - Helping the self-isolating: This is a difficult time for many of our parishioners and neighbours. It’s our responsibility to make sure they are looked after and supported. During this three week ‘lock down’, if you need any practical help and support, please let us know. Either phone the Old Friary on 0115 950 1064 or email

Let’s do what we can to stay healthy whilst looking after each other.
